Amedeo Schiattarella
Amedeo Schiattarella ( Rome , 4 June 1943 ) is an Italian architect Biography In 1989 he founded the Schiattarella Studio, which became Schiattarella Associati in 2009. [1] From 1999 to 2013 he was President of the Order of Architects of Rome [2] , in this capacity he was appointed Honorary President of the Study Center of Architects of Rome; Member of the Building Commission of the Municipality of Rome and President of ARCE (Association of the Orders of European Capitals), Member of the Commission for Urban Quality of the Municipality of Rome. Protagonist for almost 25 years of the Roman and Italian cultural scene of architecture since the late 90s, he has promoted numerous initiatives to protect the collective values of architecture. He is the founder, in 2002, of the Casa dell’Architettura in Rome [3] , a joint Order of Architects – Municipality of Rome, still active in the promotion of architectural culture. Since 2007 he has been a member of the LLPP Superior Council. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Minister of Culture of the French Republic. Together with Peter Eisenman , Toyo Ito , Juhani Pallasmaa and other leading architects in the world, he was named Academic of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) in 2015 [4] . His works are published in various international magazines, including L’architettura cronache e storia, Domus, AU and exhibited in Rome, Milan, Modena, Barcelona, Seoul. . He has published several essays and books including ” Richard Neutra, 1892-1970 “. [5] In May 2018 he was elected President of the International Academy of Architecture, a body recognized by UNESCO. Architecture A first opportunity to communicate the results achieved is provided in 1988 by the exhibition Disarmonie Prestabilite dedicated to his works at the Inarch headquarters in Palazzo Taverna . The autonomous character of the research has allowed us not to give in to the suggestions of Post Modern and to continue to work, rather, on contiguities with research in other disciplinary sectors (mathematics, literature, music, painting, sculpture …). The theme of counterpoint borrowed from the musical world with its interweaving in a single plot, of a multiplicity of voices that refer to each other, building translated and repeated phrases is, for example, the thread running through the project for the Professional Studio of Viale Gorizia in Rome and the Library of the Valdese University of the late 1980s. [10] Similarly, the complex and articulated structure of Italo Calvino’s stories constitutes the cultural precedent to which he refers to build the design logic of the numerous museum projects made in South Korea ( Seoul Metropolitan Museum , Children’s Museum and Nam Jun Paek Museum, both in Kyonggi , the Science Museum in Daejon , the Eco Museum in Gim-Po, ..) and later in Italy (the Civic Museum of Alessandria). [11] In these years, some concepts that guide his activity evolve on the basis of the results of the studies conducted and the evolution of thought: the themes of “context” and “preexistence”, accepted from the first works as necessary moments to determine the dialectical character and innovative of the planned interventions, they find a wider scope in the attention to the “genius loci” that embodies not only the material configuration of the intervention site, but also its intangible values, its atmospheres, the sensations it produces. The research conducted by Amedeo Schiattarella on the works of Richard Neutra [5] , which in 1993 ended in the publication of the eponymous monograph for the types of Officine Edizioni, is no stranger to this evolution . Right from the lesson ofNeutra , acquires the awareness of the fundamental role, in architecture, of the “void”, of the pause, of the silence between the sounds that gives sense, balance and unity to the whole composition. The theme of the “void” constitutes the conceptual core on which the projects of the La Spezia Waterfront in 2007, the Pediatric Pavilion of the Policlinico in Rome and the headquarters of the Escuela Espanola de Historia y Arqueologia of Rome are articulated . These are years of experimentation with new techniques and new tools, in which the approach with new technologies becomes an irrepressible requirement and dictates a new style of work which, while not betraying its artisan origins, takes full advantage of the potential of use of multimedia devices. Once again, the void takes on a central role: the intermediate and functional space, which becomes an architectural extension aimed at favoring experiences, exchanges and relationships. In the Middle East, he won important projects, such as the construction of the Addiriyah Art Center recently awarded at the Iconic Awards in Monaco as Best Concept and awarded the honorable mention on the occasion of the American Architecture Prize , the Celebration Hall and the rebuilding of the King Fahd International Stadium , all in Riyadh .
