Asif Khan’s Expo Gates

London based Architect Asif Khan shared the first photographs of the three gates he designed and built for Expo 2020 Dubai this week.

Asif Khan shared on his instagram stunning photos of the spectacular project with the note below,

“After 3 years of painstaking work, the three entry Portals for Expo 2020 Dubai are now complete! These are the entrances to Dubai Expo 2020. Every morning these 21 meter high doors will be opened, welcoming visitors to the Expo, while providing shading and a sensory threshold to the future. Thank you dear Hélène Binet for these beautiful photographs. Thank you to my amazing studio for their endless efforts in making this happen, to Expo especially Her Excellency Reem Al-Hashimi and @gokhatib for their support, courage and belief and to the dedication of the brilliant and ingenious team at Ha-Co Carbon GmbH in Germany who made the portals, and to our amazing structural engineer/carbon fibre aircraft designer Calin Gologan for helping us push the limits of these materials and our architecture. All star team.
This is the first element to be revealed from our 6km+ of public realm design for Expo Dubai, concoures, linear parks, lighting, furniture and some surprises… more news soon! A final thank you and chapeau to the polymath inventor Dr. Berndt Schottdorf who created the machine that built the portals, began the project with us, and who began collaborating with me back in 2011 !! The good doctor sadly passed away before it was completed. I think he would be proud.”
